This cape is the traditional cold weather outer dress of the Yi people from Zhaojue, an Yi settlement in the ‘Cool Mountains’ (Liangshan) Yi Autonomous Region in the south of China’s Sichuan province. The woolen fabric is handspun and handwoven from local fleece, dyed and then embroidered in simple patterns using colourful yarn.
